Orland Township is pleased to announce Bob Smith as the new 2017 Senior American Idol Champion. Bob won the competition May 4 2017 beating out 16 contestants at Georgios Banquet Hall located at 8800 W. 159th Street in Orland Park. Over 700 people watched the singing platform as the judges looked on and tabulated the final scores. Bob’s final song of “If Tomorrow Never Comes” by Garth Brooks proved to be the winning harmony.
“Orland Township’s Senior American Idol is a fantastic event for our seniors and the entire community,” said Supervisor O’Grady. “It really was a very special night for everyone and once again it certainly delivered up to all the enthusiasm as the performers and many of their family and friends joined in on all the fun and spirited music.” “Every year the singing gets more and more sensational, all the musical presentations were really energetic and brilliant, it was a great night for sure.”
Bob Smith witnessed the 2016 Orland Township Senior American Idol up close and personal and that’s what spurred on his ambitions of participating in this year’s contest.
“I went to last year’s Orland Township American Senior Idol with another couple, my wife and I, and I thought to myself, I think I can do that,” said newly crowned champion Bob Smith. “The rest is history as they say, it was great to be involved with such a talented group of singers and performers.”
The sixth annual competition on Thursday, May 4, raised funds for the Orland Township Scholarship Foundation, which provides college scholarships to area high school students. Kevin Grace of HGTV’s Design Star and Windy City Live emceed the event while Chicago radio Personality Rich Renik joined local professional singer James Libera and Miss Illinois 2016 Jaryn Franklin at the judges table.
Bob Smith performed his winning song, ” If Tomorrow Never Comes” on the WCIU- TV/26 morning show, “You & Me” on May 11th.
Congratulations to everyone who performed and participated in making “Orland Township Senior Idol” another smash hit!!!!
