Orland Township is pleased to announce Laura Alberts as the new 2016 Senior American Idol Champion. Ms. Alberts won the competition May 19 2016 beating out 15 contestants at Georgios Banquet Hall located at 8800 W. 159th Street in Orland Park. Over 600 people watched the singing platform as the judges looked on and tabulated the final scores. Ms. Alberts final song of “Luck be a Lady” proved to be the winning harmony.
“Orland Township’s Senior American Idol was a terrific event for our seniors and the entire community,” said Supervisor O’Grady. , “Once again it lived up to all the excitement as the performers and many of their family and friends joined in on all the fun and spirited music.” “Every year the singing gets more and more sensational, all the presentations were amazing.”
The fifth annual competition on Thursday, May 19, raised funds for the Orland Township Scholarship Foundation, which provides college scholarships to area high school students. Kevin Grace of HGTV’s Design Star and Windy City Live emceed the event while Chicago radio Personality Rich Renik joined “American Idol” alum Kyle Dee and Miss Illinois Crystal Davis at the judges table. Past winners of “Senior American Idol include the late Tom Mezyk, Joe McElligott and last years champion Jim O’ Keefe.
Laura Alberts performed her winning song, “Luck be a Lady” on WFLD-FOX32 morning show, “Good Day Chicago” on May 20.
