Guests at a recent Orland Township event enjoyed an evening of dinner, dancing and a show, with the opportunity to vote for their favorite dancers, according to the office of Orland Township Supervisor Paul O’Grady.
Six couples, all 55 year of age or better, spent two months learning and perfecting dance steps for the seventh annual Dancing with the Senior Stars of Orland Township. At the end of the evening, one couple took home the championship mirror ball trophies.
Each couple performed two dances, complete with costume changes. Guests were treated to a dance by two of their instructors, Rhonda Swan and Tony Alvarado from Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Orland Park and performances by the students from Dance Images in Tinley Park.
Total scores were determined by a combination of three components:
- Scores from the celebrity judges: Bobby and Julia Mrowiec, owners of Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Orland Park and Diane King, owner of Dance Images in Tinley Park.
- Scores from each table of guests.
- Total amount of money in each couple’s ballot box, which was donated to the Orland Township Scholarship Foundation.
In the end, the couple with the highest scores, Connie Logan and Art Morgan, took home the mirror ball trophies.
“I want to congratulate all the couples on their hard work and their outstanding performances,” said Supervisor O’Grady. “And I want to thank all the guests who attended, encouraged our contestants and donated to the Orland Scholarship Foundation – we appreciate your generosity.”
Dancing with the Senior Stars of Orland Township was held on Tuesday, November 13 at Georgios Banquets in Orland Hills. To view photos from the event, visit Supervisor O’Grady’s Facebook page, facebook.com/supervisorogrady.
