Orland Township Touchdown!

Orland Township Touchdown!

Soup lovers from Orland Township and beyond recently spent a Saturday afternoon sampling more than 20 soups and then voting for their favorites, according to the office of Orland Township Supervisor Paul O’Grady.

Nearly 300 residents took on the challenge of pacing themselves through tasting 21 different soups. The soups were divided into four categories, or quarters, for the competition. After sampling all the soups in a quarter, residents were asked to vote for their favorite and then move to the next quarter and repeat.

“The Souper Bowl Challenge is becoming one of our most popular community events,” said Supervisor O’Grady. “Even though this is only the second year, we had more attendees, more residents enter their soups, and more people already asking about next year’s event.”

Contestants in each quarter had the opportunity to win three different awards:

  • The People’s Choice Award, which was decided by votes from attending residents.
  • The Best Decorated Station, which was decided by the Souper Bowl Judging Panel.
  • The Golden Ladle, also decided by the Souper Bowl Judging Panel.

The members of the Souper Bowl Judging Panel were:

  • Lisa Jordan, Morning Show Host on Star 96.7 FM
  • Kevin Kollins, Morning Show Host on Star 96.7 FM
  • Liz Gorman, Executive Director, Illinois Tollway
  • Kyle Hastings II, Village of Orland Hills Trustee
  • Cindy Murray, Orland Township Clerk
  • John Lynch, Orland Township Trustee
  • Antonio Rubino, Orland Township Trustee
