Record Number of Contestants at Orland Township’s Senior American Idol Auditions

It was a record setting night at Orland Township as 24 contestants, its largest number ever, auditioned to be entered into the Final Competition for the fifth season of “Orland Township’s Senior American Idol”. The fundraiser sponsored by Supervisor Paul O’Grady and the Board of Trustees has all proceeds from the event enter into the Orland Township Scholarship Foundation. Auditions were held on Tuesday, February 7 2017 at 6 p.m. in the Orland Township Board Room, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave., Orland Park, IL 60462. 24 local seniors, ranging from 55 years old to 86years old, performed a song of their choice (no more than two minutes long) a cappella in front of a panel of judges that included professional singer/actor James Libera, musical instructor and Sundance Band lead singer Jim Rallis as well as well known radio personality Rich Renik. The auditions were free and if chosen the performer would enter to be a Senior Idol Contestant for the show on May 4. James Marzano of Oak Lawn the oldest contestant at 86 years old.

“We really had a good number of people come and try out,” said Orland Township Senior Services Coordinator Marie Ryan. “Every year you really don’t know what to expect, but it just seems that a lot of seniors in our area just love to sing and just love to be around one another and that’s really something special here with this group.”

Orland Township Senior American Idol will be held at Georgio’s Banquets, 8800 W. 159th Street, Orland Park, from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2017. Tickets for this event are currently on sale, please contact the Orland Township Office for more information.

“The auditions for Orland Township’s Senior American Idol marks the beginning of a wonderful event for our seniors,” said Supervisor Paul O’Grady. “It really sets the tone for a remarkable evening in May in which all the proceeds benefit the Orland Township Scholarship Foundation.” “The tremendous crowd we have on hand with local families and friends has been a staple of the Orland Township community for years and it’s always a great time.”
