Orland Township invites local seniors to take part in the month-long celebration of Older Americans Month.
Every May, the Administration for Community Living leads the nation’s observance of Older Americans Month (OAM). The 2024 theme is Powered by Connection, which recognizes the profound impact that meaningful relationships and social connections have on our health and well-being. Highlighted Event: Senior Health Fair
Orland Township will host a FREE Senior Health Fair on Tuesday, May 21, from 9 a.m. until noon at Orland Township, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave., Orland Park. Several local organizations will be on site with giveaways, raffle prizes and senior related information. Several free health services will also be available, including basic cholesterol testing, total lipid profile testing, blood pressure screenings, and hearing screenings (appointment required). “We look forward to the annual celebration of older adults in our community throughout the entire month of May!” said Orland Township Supervisor Paul O’Grady. “Since part of this year’s Older Americans Month is about the opportunity to explore diverse aging experiences, we’re excited to offer plenty of activities for our crowd to engage in.” Older Americans can look forward to specially themed drop-in days, a health fair, luncheons, and dinner dances to continue the celebrations.

- Kentucky Derby Celebration
Wear a derby hat and trot on over for the festivities! There are plenty of fun game planned, plus a Derby Hat contest and a special snack just for participants.

- Free Trial: “Joints in Motion”
Try out a free Arthritis Foundation “Joints in Motion” (“J.I.M.”) class, designed to help those who have joint and/or muscle problems achieve improved joint mobility, strength and endurance.

- Mother‘s Day Celebration
Ladies, prepare to be treated like a queen for the day because the Orland Township Drop-In Center is celebrating Mother’s Day this week! Stop by for a tasty snack from Winston’s. (Dads can join in the fun, too.)

- CINCO DE MAYO Celebration
Plan on attending a Mexican fiesta as Orland Township excitedly celebrates Cinco de Mayo at the Drop-In Center. Mexican fare, including Pepe’s tacos and salsa, will be served.

- Armed Forces Celebration
Join us in honoring all of our current and former American heroes! Classic American fare will be served as we hear from local veterans. We’ll have bingo and cards and plenty of socializing!

- Sweet Appreciation Celebration
It’s time to take a moment to reflect on all the good things in our lives and show gratitude for the people and things that make it all possible. Sweet rolls will be our special treat this week.

- Pizza/Bingo Bash
This event is back again by popular demand, don’t miss this intergenerational event as Orland Township serves dinner, calls bingo, and presents the winners with awesome prizes! Space is limited.
